Intergenerational Themes within Climate Change
By Kelsi Moore
Within intergenerational justice, there is the belief that the present generations have distinct responsibilities and duties towards future generations. The issue of climate change is a major pillar within this conversation of intergenerational justice. The ethical issue is that the environmental damage that is caused by climate change will be greater in the future than it is today if we continue in our current ways. The technology that we benefit from generates greenhouse gasses that will persist in the atmosphere and result in a planet that continuously gets hotter and hotter. A warmed planet will intensify storms, melt ice caps, and require changes in agricultural practices and infrastructure for generations to come.
