If you will participate in or be impacted by changes to assets under configuration control, you should know who is managing our new and improved Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM) processes. Here are the major SACM roles and responsibilities:

SACM Process Manager(s)

Directly responsible for the integrity of Configuration Items they own, the appropriate day to day execution of SACM processes for managing them and how they are represented in the Configuration Management System (CMS). The SACM Process Managers decide when to involve the SACM Process Owner in SACM issues.

Example: Tim Gruenhagen is the SACM Process Manager for network device Configuration Items.

SACM Process Owner

Ultimately accountable for the effectiveness and efficiency of SACM processes and the integrity of Configuration Items. Represents and promotes SACM internally and externally. Works with the SACM Process Managers to ensure the SACM processes are followed and fit for use. Works with the SACM Process Managers to ensure the integrity of Configuration Items. Conducts CMS audits to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of SACM processes and integrity of Configuration Items in general.

Configuration Item Owner (s)

The Configuration Item Owners (CIOs) are the local change authorities for Configuration Items. They are accountable for synchronizing CMS and Fixed Asset Management information representing their Configuration Items. They are responsible for auditing their Configuration Items in the CMS.

Example: Steve Bradley is the CIO for firewall network device Configuration Items.

Change Implementer

Responsible for executing changes to a Configuration Items using the CMS.

Loggers/Solvers

Responsible for documenting and resolving incidents involving Configuration Items.

Change Authority

Generally responsible for approving changes to Configuration Items. Depending on factors involved in the change, this may be the Change Implementer, the Configuration Item Owner, CAB, or eCAB.
