IT Diversity Film Festival: 2018

Miami University

The IT Services Diversity Committee is excited to be hosting our annual lunch and film festival event on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

There will be a catered picnic lunch from 12 to 1 pm on the Boyd lawn. From there, we will move into Boyd 107, where we’ll show a film called “In Whose Honor?,” a documentary by filmmaker Jay Rosenstein about the practice of using Native Americans as mascots for sports teams—something that hits pretty close to home here at Miami. The film, which premiered on PBS in August 1997, won numerous awards and was broadcast internationally to great acclaim.

In addition to the documentary, we will be showing a short video about Miami’s own experience with this issue, and we’ll invite discussion afterward. Ron Scott, associate vice president of institutional diversity at Miami, will be there to facilitate the discussion.

There is a survey in everyone’s inbox indicating whether or not they’re planning to come, and we’ll be sending out calendar invites soon as well. Hope to see you all there!
