On April 23, accountancy junior Alexa Leach was recognized as one of the recipients of the Cincinnati Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) scholarships. Awarded to the top finance and accounting majors in the Cincinnati area, the scholarship award includes a $1,500 scholarship, a subscription to the Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF) Research Reports, and inclusion of their resume in the chapter membership’s database for future employee searches.
Ms. Leach first learned about the scholarship opportunity from Accountancy Professor Jan Eighme, who informed her she was being considered by the faculty for nomination. Accountancy Department Chair Anne Farrell accompanied her to the awards ceremony held at Thomas More University. The scholarship portion of the program was hosted by Monti, Inc.’s VP of Finance & Business Intelligence Brian Tibbs, who often helps out in accountancy classes at Miami. Thomas More’s University President Joseph Chillo gave a keynote address discussing the future of technology in the business world.
A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Ms. Leach is the current VP of Fundraising for Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity. She is also in the auditing committee of the First Miami Student Credit Union and is a member of Women in Finance. This summer, she will be an audit intern at KPMG, and she looks forward to starting the Master of Accountancy program in the fall.
