Special appreciation to Scott Kissell, Jeff Sabo, Ron Stevens and Jon Yamashiro for their collaboration in developing this exhibition. As respected photographers and educators they offer a collective understanding of the history of photography and the characteristics of a well-crafted image. Numerous discussions took place to define the scope of Chasing Light and to select photographs that complement the 2020 FotoFocus theme, “Light &.”
Miami University Art Museum (MUAM) is one of almost 100 museums, galleries, universities, and public spaces participating in the 2020 FotoFocus throughout Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Columbus. FotoFocus is the culminating effort begun in 2010 by Cincinnati photography enthusiast Thomas R. Schiff. His vision is to engage inter-institutional collaboration of lens-based art in the Cincinnati region. Exhibitions, lectures and extensive dialogue of photography are the foundations of the effort. Our appreciation to FotoFocus for their support of our exhibition and for granting us funding toward our related programming.
Donors and financial contributors to the purchase of photography make it possible for MUAM to possess an impressive collection of 20th century photographs. Thanks to their support, the collection consists of over 500 photographs, more than 200 of which are black and white images.
