Student Artists and Works Selected for Fall Exhibition ~ It’s Our World

In our Douglass Gallery, the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum will present the 8th Student Response Exhibition. Titled, It’s Our World, this juried exhibition of Miami University student art is organized in connection with the university’s 2023-2024 FOCUS theme of Environmental Justice. The exhibition will be on display from August 22-December 16, 2023. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite works; winning student artists will win cash prizes that will be announced at an exhibition reception on Wednesday, November 8.

The premise of the exhibition is to engage Miami students in creatively reflecting and responding to our changing environment. It’s Our World is intended to elicit responses that illustrate how creative expression can be used to observe, understand, represent, and draw attention to environmental issues that face the individual and the collective in this one world we share. Interpretations are subject to the student’s personal perspective, major/minor, year of study, culture, age, and experiences.

Ellen Price, emeriti faculty of Printmaking, and Art Museum Intern Alexandra Leurck, a Theatre and Art Management & Entrepreneurship co-major, served as jurors along with Art Museum staff. The jurors’ final selection, consisting of 32 works of original art, includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital images, ceramics, photography and poetry.

Congratulations to the following students for having their pieces selected for the Student Response: Sabrina Barilone, Kayla Becker, Macey Chamberlin, Caitlin Curran, Claire Farrow, Katherine Hamilton, Ishita Islam, Emma Jeffers, Victoria Marx, Maggie McLaughlin, Sammi Meyers, Mallory Miller, Linh Ngyuen, Kelsey Nolin, Isabella Obradovich, Reilly Powers, Daniel Robben, David Shuppert, Ryan Singh, Libby Slauenwhite, Maggie Snee, Brian Vogt, and Jiayi Zhang.

Thanks to the support of the Art Museum’s Membership Association, cash awards will be given to the top three works selected via votes cast by visitors to the exhibition. A reception and awards ceremony will take place in November 2023.
