Circling Round Featured Artist: Lily Tran

Lily Tran has been selected as a featured artist in the Miami University Art Museum 2020 Student response Exhibition! Tran is a freshman, interactive media studies major at Miami with a computer science minor. She is from Hanoi, Vietnam and is a member of the Asian American Association, Vietnamese Student Association, Miami University Green Team, Korean American Student Association, American Sign Language as well as the Deaf Culture Club at Miami. She chose to attend Miami University because of its great program for her selected major and for its beautiful campus.

Her selected artwork, The Foods of Vietnam, was inspired when she was scrolling through social media and looking at photos of food from her hometown. She thought it would be interesting and allow her to pay homage to Vietnam in her artwork. Tran’s dream career would be to become a mobile app or website designer. In her free time, she likes to listen to music, read books, hang out with friends and learn new things.

This year’s SRE topic was Circling ‘Round, where students thought about what a circle meant to them and how they might interpret it in art. Nearly 100 submissions were received. 32 works by 58 students were chosen to be featured in the Spring 2020 exhibition. As a juried exhibition, all works were selected through a formal process by a committee.

The exhibition will open Tuesday, January 28 and will remain through alumni weekend, closing on June 13. Voting will be open until April 11, 2020. An artist celebration and award ceremony will be held on April 14, 2020 from 6-8 PM where three works will be awarded prizes totaling over $800. The awards are sponsored by the Art Museum Membership Association.
