Outside the Box Featured Artist: Candice McGlosson

By Olivia Semsel, Arts Management Intern

Our fifth Student Response Exhibition, Outside the Box, is open, and you can come check out the unique creations of 34 students (and vote for your favorite)!

This is our next post in a series featuring the student artists who have created one or more pieces displayed in Outside the Box.

Meet our featured artist, Candice McGlosson!

Candice is a Senior Printmaking Major, with a minor in Japanese Language and Culture, from Trenton, OH!

She came to Miami because It was close to home so she could take care of her grandparents, and it had everything she was looking for in a academic aspect. For fun she loves to learn about anything she can. Her favorite genres of art are printmaking and animation, and her dream job is to run her own art studio.

The Student Response Exhibition asked students to think beyond physical limits with the concept of a box. Candice has two pieces on display in this exhibition! For Candice’s first piece, titled The Final Box, she states,

“The Final Box is a reductive woodblock based on the interplay of life and death. As a child, I grew up in a household involved in running a funeral home. This piece reflects her gradual understanding and acceptance of the concept of death, and the renewal of life through it.”

For her second piece, titled Juggling Cube, she states,

“Juggling Cube is a monoprint study done with reference to emotive abstraction and prehistoric cave paintings in mind. Steel juggling cubes spun at the right speed can reflect light and display a multitude of colors.”

Come see the exhibition and vote for your top three favorites! Voting will continue until April 6 and the exhibition celebration and awards ceremony will be held on April 9, from 7-9 p.m.
