2015-06-04 10.48.35by Katrina Fausnaugh, Arts Management Intern

This upcoming fall semester, the Miami University Art Museum (MUAM) has several exciting new exhibitions that will be on display in its galleries. Of the three new exhibits, two were curated with the help of current MUAM interns, who had the opportunity to learn about the curating process while working on these shows. Come see the results of their efforts in the fall, during the dates listed below!

Winter in Jeju-Do

August 30-December 17, 2016

In the winter of 2012, photographer Caroline Philippone traveled to Jeju, a small island off the southernmost point of South Korea. Intrigued by the culture and the landscape she had heard about, Philippone set out to document the island’s mountainous region, coastal towns and temples in winter over a two week period. Welcome to America

August 30-December 17, 2016

Created from wedding gowns, dresses, skirts, various undergarments and adorned with stories told to artist Carol Hamoy by women émigrés (and their descendants), Welcome to America documents the long arduous journey made by many courageous women. The narratives (dating from the nineteenth century through 1992) bear similarity to experiences shared by all; despite economic status, ethnicity or even gender. This exhibition was curated with the help of Curatorial Intern Frances Connolly, working during the current semester with Jason Shaiman, Curator of Exhibitions at MUAM. Collections Highlights: Recent Acquisitions

August 30-December 17, 2016

Each year the Miami University Art Museum adds to its growing permanent collection through gifts and bequests from alumni and other donors who support the arts. This exhibition highlights a selection of approximately fifty objects acquired in 2014 and 2015, ranging from prints and paintings to photographs, textile and sculptural works. It comprises works by local Cincinnati-based artists, current and past faculty of the Miami University Art Department, and international and internationally-recognized artists. It was curated with the help of Bridget Garnai, current Collections Intern, and myself.
