Jr. Research Associate, Institute of Crime Science

Description:The Institute of Crime Science (ICS) is an institute within the University of Cincinnati’s School of Criminal Justice, located in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. The ICS is currently recruiting for a qualified Jr. Research Associate to assist full-time staff in research, process and program evaluations, and training (risk assessments, evidence-based practices, and group facilitation-including presentations to law enforcement and public health professionals, opioid response and gun violence reduction). Additionally, the Jr. Research Associate will assist the ICS with operational strategic planning and coaching for various law enforcement and public health agencies that the ICS provides consulting services. Specifically, the Jr. Research Associate will work under the direction of the full-time staff in the ICS to ensure the successful completion of all projects.  In addition, this position will require some national, regional and local travel, approximately 1-2 weeks per month.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • 2 years of experience in the fields of policing/law enforcement.
  • 1 year of experience in managing large data sets.
  • 1 year of experience, which must include all of the following: SPSS database management, Geographic Information Systems, and Crime Analysis.

Research Associate, Evaluation Services Center

The Research Associate will participate in social, behavioral and health evaluation and research projects, including proposal development, project oversight, database management, primary and secondary data collection and analysis (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), and report writing. The Research Associate will participate as a member of project teams, actively promote and contribute to the Center’s continuous improvement, and contribute to the initiation of business development, including proposal writing. Responsibilities will also include supporting graduate assistants and junior employees in growth and development, as needed, for project work and other evaluation and research-related responsibilities as customarily performed by an employee in a similar position.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate must have the ability and working knowledge to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to demonstrate how the functions will be performed. The Research Associate plays a significant role in making sure that data and information produced by UCESC is delivered accurately, efficiently, and professionally, both internally and externally. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Earned master’s degree in applied research methods, data sciences, demography, economics, political science, psychology, public policy, sociology, history, information system or a related field at time of appointment; bachelor’s degree with three (3) years’ experience; experience and education must be in a related field and may also include one (1) year supervision in research methods, biostatistics, information science, or a related field (see above for examples).
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience in conducting program evaluation or measurement.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.

Institutional Research Analyst

The Office of Institutional Research is looking for a Research Analyst.  Reporting an Assistant Director of Institutional Research, the Research Associate is responsible for:

  • Design, collection, reporting, analysis and presentation of institutional data and information. Reports may include tables, charts, dashboards, executive summaries, or others as needed.
  • Assist with various tasks associated with assessment studies, analysis and evaluation of academic and non-academic topics.
  • Survey research analysis, which includes survey design, administration and logistics, compilation of data results, presentation and visualization of results.
  • Responding to institutional surveys externally, such as IPEDS (U.S. Dept. of Education), Higher Learning Commission, U.S. News & World Report, among others.
  • Assist in peer institution analysis and benchmarking activities through querying state and national databases.

The Institutional Research Office is in charge of producing official reports to various external agencies, and is also in charge of rolling out reports and dashboards to a broad set of colleges and offices on campus. As such, the Research Associate plays a significant role in making sure that data and information produced by the Office of Institutional Research is delivered accurately and efficiently internally and externally.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ Degree required in social science, statistics, research methodology, higher education, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in managing large data sets, analyzing data using statistical techniques and software, and reporting data in meaningful format.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Power Point.
  • Demonstrated experience using statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, or other similar tools.
  • Academic and practical experience in survey development, implementation and reporting.

Preferred:

  • Masters’ Degree with course emphasis in research design, statistics, or data management.
  • Experience working in higher education.
