Setting Up Your Site’s Homepage

Miami Themes

There are a few options for setting up a site homepage when using the Miami Block Theme or Miami Classic Theme. Other themes have their own options, which will not be covered in this article. Check the specific theme’s documentation for this information.

Your Latest Posts

By default, the site will use “Your latest posts.” This will display a grid of posts on your homepage, showing featured images and titles of recent posts. If your blog doesn’t use featured images, this may not be the best option for you. If so, see the custom page options below.

Custom Page

Administrators can create a Page and set it as the site’s home from the Dashboard. To find this option, go to Settings in the left menu, then, next to “Your homepage displays,” select a static page, and choose the page you want to set as the homepage.

Show Latest Posts Using a Custom Page

There are some customizable options for showing your latest blog posts on your custom homepage.

Query Loop Block

The Query Loop block displays posts and other content on your site based on certain criteria, like category, tag, or publish date. The term “Query Loop” refers to the way WordPress “queries” (or searches for) specific content and “loops” through that content to show multiple posts.

To add a Query Loop block to your page, edit your page, click the plus icon, then search for query loop block in the pop-up field. Select the block, and it will be added to the page.

Query Loop blocks can be customized to have a grid or list of posts and you can choose how much or how little content to display.

Latest Posts Block

The Latest Posts Block is similar to the Query Loop Block but with fewer customization features.

This block will display a list of titles with links of the most recent posts. You can choose to display them in a list or grid view, with or without images.

Additional Information

Pair the Query Loop and Latest Post Blocks with a Columns Block to build up your homepage layout and show more types of content.

This example site is using a columns block to display a query loop of posts on the left and several other block types on the right, including image, heading, archives, and tag cloud blocks.
