The student authors of this proposal represent Miami University for the STR (Scholars Transforming through Research) program of the Council on Undergraduate Research. This program emphasizes the development of civically engaged researchers, through regularly scheduled professional development webinars. Participants learned valuable skills in communicating the impact of undergraduate research with a range of stakeholder groups. The lessons learned were applied to individual student projects and plans were developed to impact the Miami undergraduate researcher community. This program included on-site training followed by regularly scheduled webinars on various sessions on how to communicate research to different types of audiences. Through this program students, mentors, and other university representatives were given opportunities to speak with representatives of Senator J.D. Vance and gain experience in communicating research initiatives, finding, and long term goals with the office of a lawmaker. In addition to the mentioned on-site training, webinars, and meetings with lawmakers, a google form drafted by the students was sent out to Miami undergraduates who have participated or are currently participating in research. This assessment was designed to evaluate students’ comfort level with communicating research findings to general audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
