Tensile testing on artificial skin is being proposed to ultimately help develop a wearable device that can constantly and accurately monitor blood pressure for individuals at a high risk for cardiac related illnesses. The expected outcome is that a range of compositions of artificial skin will be determined that most accurately mimic the same range of properties in human skin. Moreover, the anticipated individual outcome for the student investigator is that they will experience the steps from beginning to end of proposal writing, performing research, and writing about results. These skills will provide a powerful foundation of knowledge for their continued education and when entering the workplace. The significance of this research is to help prevent the leading cause of death in the United States by actively monitoring individuals at risk for cardiac related illness and death with wearable devices developed with the customizable artificial skin developed in this study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
