A method of separation and purification of tannin from the willow plant has been established, but the identity of the extractable non-tannin polyphenols present in willow is not currently known. In order to more fully utilize the isotope labeled tissue, unlabeled control plants were used for pilot studies. The non-tannin polyphenols were extracted and characterized by HPLC\/DAD. From the spectral data of the willow extract, we conclude that the non-tannin polyphenols found in willow tissue consist of phenolic acids that elute primarily at the beginning of separation by Sephadex LH-20 column, and flavonoid compounds which elute at the end of the column.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Author:<\/strong> Charles Porter<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faculty Advisors:<\/strong> Drs.
