Tourism promoters featured Henry de Waroquier\u2019s 1932 painting of the 15th century Tour de L\u2019Horloge Auxerre, or \u201cClock Tower of Auxerre.\u201d Today, Auxerre is a modern commercial district that owes much of its existence to its surrounding river routes. During WWII, Bourgogne was separated by a demarcation line German troops occupied Northern Burgundy while Southern Burgundy was free.
