The 5 sets of the Traveling Panel Exhibition will support the introduction of educational resources and programming opportunities surrounding the contextualization of African-American children\u2019s picture books.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Content<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the first time, African-American children\u2019s illustrated literature is the focus of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a museum exhibition featuring art produced for book illustrations. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The presentation of this genre offers a lens into the cultural, historical, and social makeup of African-American cultural identity, while also shedding light on the long neglected world of African-American authors and illustrators in the pantheon of\u00a0children\u2019s\u00a0literature.\u00a0<em>Telling A People&#8217;s Story<\/em> addresses:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The presentation of African-American identity and history in a creative, educational and respectful manner.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The raising of greater awareness for the role African-American illustrators and authors play in the development and growth of the field of children\u2019s literature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The topic of social justice throughout African-American history.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The need for awareness to the challenges African-American children\u2019s book authors and illustrators face in a field lacking sufficient representation of minorities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The importance of appreciating the culture and history of a people who are deeply rooted in the American story.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Organization of themes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Title &amp;
