{"id":23,"date":"2020-08-21T08:00:54","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T12:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/tech-talk\/?p=23"},"modified":"2020-09-10T15:47:15","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T19:47:15","slug":"zoom-and-canvas-a-primer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/tech-talk\/2020\/08\/zoom-and-canvas-a-primer\/","title":{"rendered":"Zoom and Canvas: A primer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some notes about using Zoom within Canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alias email addresses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your primary email address in Canvas is listed as an alias address (e.g., firstname.lastname@MiamiOH.edu), you may have some trouble getting your Miami Zoom account to connect to Canvas. This is because your Zoom account has been associated with your UniqueID &#8212; not the alias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To resolve this issue and ensure that your Canvas account is connected to Zoom, you will need to change the default email in Canvas. This is achieved by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Log into Canvas<\/li><li>Navigate to &#8220;Account&#8221; and then &#8220;Settings&#8221;<\/li><li>Add your UniqueID@MiamiOH.edu email address<\/li><li>Confirm your email<\/li><li>Return to Canvas and hover over the email you added. A star should appear &#8212; click that star to make that your default email.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step-by-step instructions can also be found in the Canvas help site: <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Student-Guide\/How-do-I-change-my-default-email-address-in-my-user-account-as-a\/ta-p\/410\">How do I change my default email address?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Breakout rooms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the cool features of Zoom is breakout rooms. With these, students can work in sections and do group work just like they would in a physical classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, pre-assigned Zoom breakout rooms will only work if you are using the desktop application.
