A: Email MiamiOnline@miamioh.edu with as much course information as possible, including official course name, course code, program information, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Do you have a set of quality standards I can use to check my own course? <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A: Miami University has recently adopted Essential Practices and Best Practices for Online Teaching<\/a>. For a more in-depth set of quality standards, you can make a copy of the same rubric that Miami Online\u2019s Quality Matters-certified Peer Reviewers use to review each course that Miami Online builds.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Where can I get help with Canvas problems?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A: You can contact our Tech Support and Training team anytime at MiamiOnline@miamioh.edu<\/a>. You can also check out our calendar of Canvas Office Hours<\/a> and training sessions on a variety of topics in online learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: I\u2019m a department chair who has new faculty teaching online, or existing faculty newly developing online courses. How can I make sure they get trained? <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A: Miami Online offers a self-paced course, Teaching Online at Miami University (TOMU) to guide faculty through the fundamentals of online teaching. Send a list of your faculty\u2019s names and Miami emails to MiamiOnline@miamioh.edu, and we\u2019ll get them enrolled in TOMU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: My department has a great idea for a noncredit Professional Education course. How do I get Miami Online\u2019s help in launching it? <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Q: My course is designated ONLA, Online Asynchronous, but I need the students to meet together with me in real time, once a week. How much synchronous time can I require in an ONLA course? <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A: None. It\u2019s against course modality to require synchronous meetings.\u00a0 Please see the E-Learning Course Terms and Guidelines<\/a>, part of the Academic Affairs website for details. I recommend speaking to your Chair to convert the offering to a HYB-A course.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the official procedure for modality determination: The appropriate instructional mode must be included when the department scheduler submits the course schedule and before it is reviewed by divisional leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: I need to share my course materials with a colleague. How can I add them to my course? <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A: Faculty other than the instructor of record cannot be added to a course that contains real student enrollments, to protect those students\u2019 FERPA rights. Please contact MiamiOnline@miamioh.edu<\/a> to have a sandbox copy of your course content made instead, which you are able to share with your colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: I need some lecture videos for my course. Can Miami Online help with that?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A: We offer a variety of resources, from self-service video production resources to professionally produced videos for select projects. Submit our Instructional Media Request Form to describe your project and find out if we have capacity to support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
