We know you have been counting down the days until you can experience Miami with your student, but remember that they have a full schedule of classes and activities so be sure to give them some time over the weekend to take care of schoolwork and any other pressing responsibilities. Encourage them to prioritize school work they need to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Be flexible. You might have already planned out every minute of the day, but allow some time for your student to show you their favorite spots around campus or their favorite Uptown restaurant. And don\u2019t be completely surprised if they made plans with their new friends for some portion of the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And while you may be itching to ask all the hard-hitting questions that get beyond the surface, save the really tough questions for Thanksgiving or Winter Break, when you have more time and they have fewer academic responsibilities looming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Advice to students: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Be sure to prioritize any assignments or studying that you have on your radar. With midterms on the horizon, it is as important as ever to stay on top of your work. Take some time to plan out the places that you want to share with your family whether that is your favorite place to eat Uptown or walk them through your day to day on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Be patient with your family. Remember, they too are going through a major transition. You lived with them for 18 years and now you don\u2019t. Expect lots of hugs. And so many questions. Way more questions than you feel like answering. But throw them a bone. They love you. They miss you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Advice to both<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Take advantage of the many events planned by the University and Oxford Community this weekend. There are a lot of them.
