Finals have arrived and it is that point in the semester where students begin moving out of their residence halls and rentals for the summer. Whether this is your first time moving out or you\u2019re an experienced mover, we have prepared a list of tips to help the process go seamlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.Pack ahead of time<\/strong> – Do not wait to pack everything until the day you leave! Get a head start on packing this weekend or try packing a little bit each day. When you\u2019re studying this week and need a break, you can take the time to pack up stuff around your room. You\u2019ll appreciate this when you move out later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.Now, Later, Never – <\/strong> While packing your stuff, divide everything into three categories: what you\u2019ll need this summer (now), what you\u2019ll need next Fall (later), and what you\u2019ll never use again (never). This will make it easier to pick out what you\u2019ll use when you get home and store the rest away (or donate: see below for Sharefest information!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.Donate<\/strong> – Take a look at that pile of \u201cnever\u201d items you just created. Time to donate to Sharefest! ShareFest<\/a> is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the collection and redistribution of items donated by Miami University students and the Oxford community at the end of the academic year. If you are interested in donating and live in a residence hall there will be a designated place for you to leave your stuff. However, if you live off campus then you can drop your donations of in the Chestnut parking lot or schedule to have them pick it up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.Use what you have – <\/strong>Don\u2019t waste space or money buying new containers for bringing your stuff home. Use large garbage bags to carry your clothes and bed linens in. If you were recently sent boxes online these are also great for storing items. This is a great use of materials you already have! <\/p>\n\n\n

5.Dress for (moving) success <\/strong>– Before you pack away all your clothes, leave out an outfit that you can wear for moving. You won\u2019t want to wear something that you love because it could get dirty or ruined. Dress the part! We recommend comfortable gym shoes, a free T-shirt you received earlier in the year, and jeans or shorts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
