What is Winter Term?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami University\u2019s winter break is from December 16 to January 27. You may have noticed this 6-week break is much longer than many of your friends\u2019 breaks at other universities. This is because Miami offers an optional Winter Term during the second half of your break from January 2-26. This is an opportunity for you to take 1-2 additional classes online or on campus. If you need to catch up on classes or you\u2019re looking to add a double major, this is a great opportunity to take more classes without overloading your schedule during the Spring or Fall. Fun fact: Miami is the first public university in Ohio to offer a Winter Term!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami offers four different ways to receive credit during Winter Term. The first option is to take classes on campus; this includes Oxford, Hamilton, Middletown, and Voice of America Learning Center. If you live in a residence hall and are interested in staying on campus during this time, speak with your Resident Assistant. You will need to pay an additional fee as well as inform the school on your MyCard account. If you prefer taking classes in the comfort of your home, then you have the option to receive credit through online classes. Additionally, if you are studying abroad in somewhere like Luxembourg you can also receive Winter Term credit overseas. The final option to receive credit is away through an internship or job shadowing. The Center for Career Explorations and Success will provide guidance and advising to students pursuing this option. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We recommend speaking with your academic advisor so that they can help you decide what classes you should be taking. You can also look on your DAR to see what credits you still need to complete. After you determine what you would like to take, check to make sure it is on the <\/span>course list.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before signing up for any classes, check in with your parents because there is an extra fee associated, per each credit hour, with taking classes during Winter Term. Once you double check with your parents, you can begin registering online. Registration is already open, so select your classes the same way you did for the Spring semester.
