But what about in the City of Oxford? Whether you&#8217;re here for a few years or have lived here your entire life, you are considered a member of this community!<\/p>\n<p>So what does that mean?<\/p>\n<p>You have a\u00a0stake in what happens here! We&#8217;ve compiled a few ways for you to learn about what&#8217;s going on at the city level in Oxford and to make your voice heard.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Attend a City Council Meeting<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Learn what decisions are being made by <strong>attending Oxford City Council meetings<\/strong>. The meetings, held on the first and third Tuesday of every month, are open to the public, with an opportunity for public comment at every meeting.\u00a0Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m.\u00a0in the Council Chambers of the Oxford Courthouse, located at 118 W High Street. Oxford residents are encouraged to attend and voice their concerns for their community!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>&#8230;Or Watch One Online<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you aren&#8217;t able to attend City Council meetings in person, each one is recorded and posted as a video on the City of Oxford website. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/oxford-on-demand\">Watch the videos<\/a> to stay informed\u00a0<\/strong>on what&#8217;s happening in Oxford (and get the early scoop about new businesses coming to Oxford, zoning changes, policy updates and more!).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8620\/16481259117_bd3dae94a7_b.jpg\" alt=\"oxford courthouse ohio\" width=\"1024\" height=\"689\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Learn about Upcoming Elections<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the run down of the current City Council:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/kate-rousmaniere\">Kate Rousmaniere &#8211;\u00a0Mayor<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/mike-smith\">Mike Smith &#8211;\u00a0Vice-Mayor<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/kevin-mckeehan\">Kevin McKeehan &#8211;\u00a0Councilor<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/bob-blackburn\">Bob Blackburn &#8211;\u00a0Councilor<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/steve-dana\">Steve Dana &#8211;\u00a0Councilor<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/glenn-ellerbe\">Glenn Ellerbe &#8211;\u00a0Councilor<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofoxford.org\/city-council\/edna-southard\">Edna Southard &#8211;\u00a0Councilor<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But next month, things will be shaken up a bit. City Council elections are November 7, 2017, with\u00a0nine candidates competing for four spots. Last week, the Miami Student hosted a debate between the candidates. Check out their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/miamistudent.net\/oxford-city-council-debate\/\">full stream<\/a>\u00a0of the debate.\u00a0The candidates come from a wide array of backgrounds. Check out The Miami Student&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/miamistudent.net\/ox-debate\/\">list of candidates<\/a>\u00a0and view the nonpartisan <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0BxlJwtLJH7doY2l4Q2pJandSMXhySWgxMWt5UzVMcmNXZDMw\/view\">Voter Information Guide<\/a> from the League of Women Voters of Oxford to <strong>educate yourself about your candidate options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Vote!<\/h2>\n<p>So where do you vote?<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0If you&#8217;re registered in Butler County, plug in your address to find your polling location on the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.butlercountyelections.org\/where_do_i_vote\/index.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Butler County Elections website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Students who live in the residence halls will vote in Shriver, but off-campus students should verify their location online. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are registered to vote somewhere other than Butler County (e.g. your hometown near Cleveland, Columbus, or even another state), you will need to vote by absentee ballot. The last day to request an absentee ballot in Ohio is November 4, 2017. However, rules differ by state. To learn more about voting via absentee ballot, visit <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/vote.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">vote.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Registered to vote in Butler County, but don\u2019t have time to vote on Election Day? The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/miamioh.edu\/student-life\/community-engagement-service\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Office of Community Engagement and Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is sponsoring a free <strong>Early Voting Bus Trip<\/strong> on November 4 with pickup locations on- and off-campus: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">11:00am: Pick-up in front of Shriver Center \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">11:10am: Pick-up at the corner of Chestnut and Campus Ave \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">11:20am: Pick-up at the corner of High St and Main St <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">11:30am: Depart for Butler County Board of Elections <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">12:00pm: Arrive at Butler County Board of Elections<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1:00pm: Depart for Miami University<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1:30pm: Drop-off at E High St and N Campus<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Make sure to bring a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.state.oh.us\/elections\/voters\/id-requirements\/#gref\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">valid form of ID<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with you to the polls. The address on your valid form of ID must match the one you used to register to vote. Not only is their content approachable and sometimes-humorous, they provide some excellent tips for safety, theft prevention, and more.<\/p>\n<h2>Share Concerns with Your Off-Campus Senator<\/h2>\n<p>If you live off-campus and you have a question or concern about your experience in Oxford, reach out to your Off-Campus Senator in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MiamiASG\/\">Associated Student Government<\/a>.
