Clifton Library // Emily Pate

Vignette

The Clifton Library integrates with the Clifton community by using key concept ideas from the Clifton Plaza design. The concept came from the history of Clifton, which was transformed by the modern technologies of the street car. This idea is implemented into the design with the use of an abstracted street car route map on the facades of the library and on the ground plane of the plaza. The Clifton Library introduces a more modern design into the historical Clifton area, while still preserving the history of how the community came to be.

Clifton Library Concept // Emily Pate

This library design will integrate into the clifton community by using local materials and key concept ideas from the clifton plaza design. The concept of the history of clifton that was transformed by the streetcar will also be referenced in my library design. I plan on using the abstracted map route on the east and/or west facade of the building. Creating a glass pattern that will be visually appealing, but also blend with the rest of the library design.

Clifton Plaza // Emily Pate

Clifton is located north of Cincinnati, Ohio and is the birthplace of Skyline Chili. The residents in this area use the plaza for many events and activities, such as yoga and concerts. The parameters of this project was to design a plaza that suited the resident’s needs, included a bar, covered stage area, a water feature, and modular seating.

The concept for my design was inspired by the streetcar and how it shaped Clifton into the place it is today. I used the streetcar map route for the Cincinnati area and created an abstracted version of it and mirrored it onto the plaza ground. I also used the trolly method in my movable seating, creating an experience similar to the streetcar. I also included a tensile structure in my design to shade and protect the stage and bar area.
