Not all stories published by Arroyo, and illustrated by Posada, are sensationalized accounts. Between June 30-July 1, 1905, a flood ripped through the mining city of Guanajuato (located in South Central Mexico), resulting in the death of perhaps 1,000 citizens. Arroyo published at least one other broadside on the topic featuring one of Posada’s illustrations. The article describes the horror that ensued and provides an explanation for the severity of the situation. Apparently, a broken dam was the cause for such massive flooding that also completely destroyed the nearby town of Marfil.
