Never in sun, never\nwith a belly full of meat or blood\nbetween the teeth. Once she attacked my workstation, \nrelentless\u2014all tooth and \nstrife, she would have bled it \nif it bled. She would conquer kings if her bones \nwere proportional to her beast. She has no notion \nof rent or health insurance or that we live \nunder the ceremony of capitalism \nand someone else\u2019s god. This matters little when \nshe brings me live, unbroken mice\u2014wise cat mother to \ntall, stupid daughter\u2014and waits expectantly \nfor the blood and afterward, in the sun, \nher place settled\nupon my hip. <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Emma Johnson-Rivard<\/strong> lives in Maryland where she writes poetry and weird fiction.
