The Miami University Oedipodinae Project (MUOP) is an integrative research project ran predominantly by undergraduate researchers at the Global Change Biology Lab at the Department of Biology, Miami University of Ohio. We are researching the diversification of North American Oedipodinae (band-winged) grasshoppers. Our goal is to understand how these grasshoppers diversified across landscape and why some species are widespread whereas others have very limited distributions. We are using a variety of tools and approaches, including field work, data mining, GIS-based spatial analyses, ecological modeling, phylogenetic analyses, and bioinformatics. We currently looking for collaborators to help us collect Oedipodinae grasshoppers across North America.
