Socks with loafers – a debate as old as time itself. Here’s the headline: yes, you can absolutely wear socks with loafers. And we’ll even keep this short.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no hard and fast rule here. You can do whatever you want – your style is your style! But we do have some helpful tips to keep it sharp, particularly during these colder months. Here are a few ways to style in any situation.
Stay Warm, Add Some Contrast: This is a great strategy for making your loafers pop. A white or light colored sock against a dark loafer can really make your Italian-made shoes stand out.

Add a Pop of Color:Want to add some tasteful flare to your fit? Add a pop of color, like a red or blue sock, against a dark loafer. Or, aesthetically blend the pant>sock>loafer in a more monotone fashion (we like the olive sock against our faded olive Milano loafer, for example).

‘Casualize’ Your Fit:Socks can be a great way to make your outfit more casual. At Del Toro, we are big believers in throwing on a fine Italian loafer with an otherwise informal outfit. Sweats, jeans, you name it. It will work, we promise.

Dress ‘Em Up:Okay, there are some rules that we do like to stick to…at a high level at least. If you’re wearing a suit more formally, you actually want to match your sock with your pant. Most people try to match their sock with their shoe – that’s no bene. The eye should follow your outfit down to the shoe, allowing the shoe to stand out as it’s own primary element of the ensemble.

Novelty Socks:Try not to, but if you must, we won’t stop you. Again, your style is your style! We don’t sell any true novelty-like socks, but maybe one day you can convince us.
No-Show Socks:Yes, 1,000% yes. Particularly in the summer months. They help keep your loafers healthy and your feet odor-free. It took us longer than we care to admit to develop our no-show line. We designed them to perfectly fit our loafers. We’d show you, but there’s nothing to see…kinda the point! Click here for learn more information.
