Maddie Beal (’24) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major: Anthropology <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I decided to choose Museums and Society as a minor because of my growing love for museums over the past few years. The classes offered for the minor have helped me grow and appreciate art and history within museums and collections all over the world. I am hoping to take the skills that I have gained through this minor and apply them to a museum job in the future! I created this site as a tool for students in the minor (and those exploring this option) as an independent study and final project. I hope that future Museums and Society minors will benefit from this as a resource for connecting with peers, institutions, and related opportunities. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Madison Huber (’24)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major: Education Studies <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This minor stood out to me because I never thought of working in a museum until I found this minor. It has shown me different possible jobs I could get in the museum field, and I have also gotten to speak with people outside of Miami thanks to the minor and classes I have taken. If you can, take ART 498 for your Senior Capstone!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jillian Schwab (’24)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major: Anthropology <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this minor, I have taken classes about museum theory, the future of museums, and digital humanities. I was very fortunate to be chosen for the McClure Textile Fellowship at the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum, which I learned about through the minor. This minor has prepared me for a graduate degree in museology and a career working in museums! <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Major: Anthropology <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chose Museums and Society as my minor due to the trips to local museums my parents took me on as a kid, so when I discovered the minor I jumped at the opportunity to be able to work within museums myself! This minor has benefitted me by providing a better view of just how much work is put into museums to make them run smoothly, allowing me to appreciate them that much more. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I chose this minor because I have always been fascinated with museums and their ability to convey information to such a broad audience. I wanted to build the specific skills that would allow me to do the same! I hope to use this minor to give myself the hard skills and research ability desirable for working at a museum in collections in the future. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Faith Walker (’22?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chose the Museums and Society minor because it complimented my previous coursework in Anthropology, Art History, and Archaeology. I applied the lessons from the minor in my work as Director of the Great Bend Museum in Ravenswood, WV. I started here after graduation as an AmeriCorps member, and now I’m an employee of the City.
