Artist Statement: In Characteristic of a Teapot, I chose to use this medium to represent the concept, utility and beauty of a circle. However, in order to provoke the shape as well as the viewer, I deconstructed hollow circles, thrown on the potter’s wheel, and rearranged them in order to create a functional teapot. The deconstruction the circle was important; rearranging the arcs of a circle to be as functional and aesthetic as the original allowed me to represent the circle in a way that is unique to me and my craft.
