Artist Statement: “Rotational Deterioration” is the first of several works I’m creating in a series of intractable circus themed installation prints. This series is a self reflection on how performance work is/has changing(ed) my body, and the concept of mortality exchanged for whimsy. |Earlier this summer I had a near death experience during a show where I could have been decapitated. This scenario awakened a questioning in me as to why I continue to work in such a dangerous field, and I’ve come to realize that it’s the same reason I make art. For the hope of leaving magic in this world once I’ve left it.
This piece is supposed to be hung from the ceiling/rafters in a relatively open space due to its ability to rotate 360 degrees.
