These are moving, finely crafted tales.<br><strong>\u2014Ehud Havazelet<\/strong><br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\">About the Author<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marianne Villanueva, a former Stegner Fellow in Creative Writing at Stanford, has been writing and publishing stories about the Philippines and Filipino Americans since the mid 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her critically acclaimed first collection of short fiction,&nbsp;<em>Ginseng and Other Tales from Manila<\/em>&nbsp;(Calyx Books 1991) was short\u2013listed for the Philippines\u2019 National Book Award. Her work has been widely anthologized. Her story, \u201cSilence,\u201d first published in the&nbsp;<em>Three Penny Review<\/em>, was short\u2013listed for the 2000 O. Henry Literature Prize, and \u201cThe Hand\u201d was awarded first prize in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.juked.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Juked<\/a>\u2019s 2007 fiction contest. She has edited an anthology of Filipina women\u2019s writings,&nbsp;<em>Going Home to a Landscape<\/em>, which was selected as a Notable Book by the prestigious Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She currently teaches writing and literature at Foothill College and Notre Dame de Namur University.
