National Transfer Student Week is an opportunity to raise awareness among transfer students about their common challenges and barriers. Transfer students bring a diverse perspective, skill set, and way of thinking. National Transfer Student Week is Oct. 21 \u2013 25, 2024.<\/strong> Colleges and universities celebrate it annually, the third week of October. This awareness allows us to shine a light on transfer students, their lives, and their stories. This week is a great chance to acknowledge and celebrate them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can students get involved with National Transfer Week?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During Transfer Week, Miami Regionals hosts on-campus activities<\/a> at the Hamilton and Middletown campuses. The events can help build a strong community among you and your peers. All students can participate in Transfer Week events. This is a great opportunity to invite new and transfer students to activities, clubs, and sports. You can also visit The HUB<\/a> to find a group that interests you. Do you want to share what your transfer or online experience has been like? Use the power of your story to help encourage other students. Submit<\/a> a short video testimonial (five minutes or less), or share a few sentences about your experience and submit it to miamionline@MiamiOH.edu<\/a> with the subject line, \u201cMy transfer or online story\u201d. If you’re an online student or can’t make it to campus, another way to celebrate Transfer Student Week is to share your transfer experience with us and fellow students.

We recently spoke with Astrid J, a Miami Regionals undergraduate transfer student taking online English Studies courses. She shared some of her transfer and online experiences with us.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Why or what made you want to transfer to Miami Regionals?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When I found out about Miami\u2019s online English Studies program, which allowed me to not sacrifice my new job and care for my sick mother, I was sold. My interactions with the wonderful people who help onboard and orient transfer students further cemented my decision as the right one.

How has your experience been so far as a transfer student?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s been great! I\u2019m actually in my last year here (I\u2019ve taken 10+ courses through Miami Online [formerly Miami University Regionals E-Campus] at this point), and I wouldn\u2019t change a thing. The teachers are caring and helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you recommend for other transfer students?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“I recommend asking questions \u2014 with asynchronous online classes, you won\u2019t see your teachers very often, so being comfortable reaching out to them as soon as you\u2019re confused or concerned is a good practice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In what ways has your experience as an online student prepared you after college, and what do you plan to do?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

My post-college plan likely involves teaching or education in some form, so experiencing so many different styles of online teaching and learning has prepared me to follow in the footsteps of my instructors.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
