I was a Killam Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta from 2011 to 2012. I returned to The Ames Laboratory in 2012 and stayed there until joining Miami University in 2013. The materials that we study are primarily alloys based on transition metals and group elements. The inclusive goal of the research is to advance the fundamental understanding of the factors and mechanisms that drive the properties of these materials and to incorporate the understanding into the development of new materials with tailored properties. While achieving the overall goal of the project, the next generation scientists (undergraduate and graduate students) are trained in magnetic materials synthesis and characterization. The properties that we are particularly interested in include, but not limited to, the following:

Coupled and decoupled Magnetic and structural transitions
Quantum Phase Transitions
Magnetocaloric effects
Exchange bias effects
Permanent magnets

Opportunities for Students

Students at both Undergraduate and Masters level are always welcome to participate in the research in my lab. In my research group the students will be provided with an opportunity of gaining extensive experimental research experience in magnetism. From sample preparation to characterization, students will learn different experimental techniques. If you are interested, send me an email or stop by my office sometime to discuss possible research opportunities.

I completed my BSc in Computer Science in 2001 from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
