Note: Webex’s “Attendance Grading” feature was very problematic, so it is no longer available within Canvas. The content below this paragraph is the archived version of the FAQ.
With attendance grading in Webex Meetings, you can automatically assign points to students when they attend a meeting. It seems like this would be great for awarding participation points as part of your course grade—but what criteria does Webex use to count students as “present”?
An answer to this question wasn’t available anywhere in Webex’s documentation, so I called their support number, and a helpful rep told me that students are counted as present as soon as they join a meeting. It isn’t based on when they enter/exit or the length of time they’re in the meeting.
If you want to know exactly who attended your Webex meeting, you can download a roster after the meeting has ended. Note that it’ll tell you how long each person stayed in your meeting, but this information isn’t always accurate.
If you want to know why a student dropped off a meeting, you can call Webex to ask for this information. Per the Webex rep I spoke with, they don’t release all meeting information to end users because it contains a lot of private data.
Note that you can also see overall numbers for Webex meetings attendance in two places: the Analytics tab within Webex in Canvas and the Insights link on the Webex site.
