Evidently Shakespeare wasn\u2019t in IT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Service Excellence Release 2 team has been designing our future change and configuration management processes. In this pursuit, we are defining the word \u201cchange\u201d, which is critically important in establishing the scope of the change process.<\/p>\n<p>Our working definition states that a change is \u201cthe addition, modification, or removal of anything that could have an effect on customer-facing services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As an example, \u201cWireless Internet\u201d is an IT service, and one we will use here to illustrate the scope of \u201cChange\u201d. Things used to provide the Wireless Internet service include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>machine room and network <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">architecture<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">software<\/span> on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">servers<\/span> and network <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">devices<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">data<\/span> (e.g. list of users that can use the service)<\/li>\n<li>established <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">IT processes<\/span> (e.g. process for adding new access points)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">metric<\/span> definitions (e.g. how bandwidth is measured at a client\u2019s workstation)<\/li>\n<li>official end-user <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">documentation<\/span> (e.g. knowledge base cases)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Adding, removing, or changing any of the above constitutes a change, and is in-scope for Release 2!<\/p>\n<p>For a more detailed look at the definition the team has created, see our full working definition.<\/p>\n<p>We know what you\u2019re thinking: Overhead. Bureaucracy! Waste.
