The Distance

Academic Term of Essay Subject: Fall Semester 2019

Before I came into Miami University, I was a high school student from Wheeling, a small and old town close to Pittzbuger, so this is actually my fifth year in United States. During this period of time, I met lots of new people, visit several new places and had some meaningful experience. Overall, this five years of American experience means a lot to me and one thing happens in this five year touch me badly still.

Like all the other 18-20 years old student, we are no longer kids but adults, we have our own lives, thoughts, and maybe some special feeling to someone we care. I am one of those who fall in love with another, another that is living in China, knowing each other for more than 8 years, and getting separated because of the choice for the future. I was not an emotional person, I am the guy who always trying to act like a no care person, I was the one who will say “No need to be quite so dramatic man.” when some of the other international students express the homesick or missing the family. This was me until things just happened.

Judy is the girl that I have a deep relationship with, I noticed my emotions to her a long time ago, but I try not to bother her since I was living and studying in United State, I thought the distance, the condition of mine and so much different things would ruined all. Since I thought this way, nothing really happened at first, I kinda admit the fact that it will be nearly impossible to have a good ending but in the story which can be called life will always give us some luck and good stuff. Like every summer holiday we did, we met each other, we visited Japan together, play games together, and just walk together to different places, I enjoyed every moment when I can do something with her even though I know this can not be forever because i have to leave and go to the college for my future, this is something I couldn’t change, however you can never suppressing your own feelings forever, I wanted to talk to her about what I feel about her, confused about myself and this relationship. I am lucky, she accepted me, accepted the situation between us and told me that she will wait for me.

Everytime when i think about this, I feel so grateful and sad at the same time, and this feeling hit me harder when i started my life in Miami. When I wake up, the first thing I do is check the message, when I have a break, I think what if she is here, what will we talk about, when i see some cool things happen in school, i wish i can tell her immediately. There are so many “what if” in my head, and for the first time, I start to understand those who are missing their home, their family and their city, there is something like a treasure to us out there and waiting for us.
