Winter Break Housing Option

Miami University

The following message was sent to all students living in the residence halls by email.

Residence Halls officially close for Winter Break at 7:00pm on Friday December 9, please make plans to leave your room no later than this time. If you have a need to stay in your room during break, you must sign up online and pay a daily fee. To sign up for break housing, please login to the housing portal (www.miamioh.edu/housingcontract) to request Winter Break and/or Winter Term Housing. You will need to review the provisions and indicate which dates you plan to stay in your room.

Because your normal semester room rate does not include break periods, an additional nightly charge applies. The nightly charge is determined based on your Tuition Promise cohortand is added to your Bursar bill.  The nightly rate for Friday, December 9 will be waived for students who sign up early. In order to have the Friday night charge waived, you must submit your request before Wednesday December 7 at 11:59pm.

Did you know that heating temperatures are lowered in unoccupied rooms to help conserve energy during the break period? It’s important that you let us know if you plan to stay in your room so that we can ensure your heat is at the proper level. If you don’t let us know, or you come back unexpectedly, you may find your room cooler than you would like, and it may take up to two days to return to the normal level.

Please note! Only students registered for winter term courses, or students with extenuating circumstances, will be permitted to request housing December 31 through January 1. Students not taking classes are not permitted to live in the residence halls on these days without extenuating circumstances that require you to remain on campus.

Spring Semester Move-In/Return to Campus

Residence halls will reopen on Sunday, January 22 at 9:00am.If you have a need to arrive prior to opening, we do allow students to request to arrive on Saturday. If you have this need, you must submit a request online (www.miamioh.edu/housingcontract), and will be charged your daily cohort rate. Students are not permitted to return to campus prior to Saturday, January 21, 2023 without a specific documented need. Students who have travel reasons to arrive early before Spring Semester hall opening should make arrangements to stay off-campus with a friend or make hotel reservations. Students who access their room without approval will be billed the unapproved rate of $55/day.

There will be limited meal service provided during break periods and the University will be closed most of the time. Armstrong Student Center will have limited hours during breaks. King Library usually has some limited hours during the breaks. Visit the Armstrong Student Center and library website for more details.
