I think that practicing being exemplary teachers today will help us put our best foot forward as we begin our careers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"background-color:#c5d2e1\"><em>Practicing being <strong>exemplary science teachers <\/strong>today will help us put our best foot forward.<\/em><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"207\" height=\"243\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2022\/09\/blog1.png?resize=207%2C243&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4549\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does it mean to be an exemplary science teacher?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From what I have learned about being an exemplary science teacher, it&#8217;s all about changing your mindset about how to teach science. Here are some of the ways I plan to do that: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Understand that every student has preconceptions about science.<\/strong> Some students could come into your class with negative feelings about science. If you acknowledge this and have patience, you have the chance to reignite an interest in science.<\/li><li><strong>Invite all students to be part of scientific discovery. <\/strong>Create STEM-centered activities and lessons that the whole class can be involved in.<\/li><li><strong>Be as motivated to learn about science as you want your students to be. <\/strong>This goes hand in hand with the previous point. It&#8217;s something that takes a little extra effort but makes a world of a difference to your students. Here are a few things you can do to practice being exemplary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><li><strong>Encourage scientific inquiry.<\/strong> Make sure your students&#8217; environment cultivates their need to be curious. Encourage students to ask their questions and investigate things they care about. <\/li><li><strong>Include the outdoors in your lessons. <\/strong>Whenever possible,\u00a0try to include nature in your lessons, whether that be keeping a low-maintenance classroom pet or taking students outside.<\/li><li><strong>Use<\/strong> <strong>relatable examples of science.<\/strong> Try to investigate science that is particularly relevant to your students\u2019 everyday life or interests.
