More group work means better connections and more engagement, right? Well, what if I told you that group work doesn&#8217;t make much of a difference. Cooperative learning, on the other hand, really does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what is the difference, then? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn.teachhub.com\/cdn\/farfuture\/HGX5H45F7DxtvDiWZCgWpENZYMqbjNPiRrZF40TnMAU\/mtime%3A1495807722\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/image\/teaching-strategies-cooperative-learning_0.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Image result for cooperative learning\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Cooperative learning is defined by NSTA as an, &#8220;instructional method where students work in small groups to accomplish learning goals under guidance of a teacher.&#8221; The three main reasons for utilizing these methods are to develop students&#8217; social skills and communication, increase diversity, and improve academics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a helpful video that gives a good description on what cooperative learning really does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cooperative Learning Model: Strategies &amp; Examples\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cnkKHL_dyGE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several things you can do to implement cooperative learning in your classroom.
