Normally, people say that money, possessions, and success make them motivated. The promise of a reward is a completing goal, but is nothing new. It has been the ultimate\u00a0motivator for many years, especially in education. Intrinsic motivation is a better motivator in the classroom for many reasons. This type of motivation comes from within. Intrinsic motivation is motivation with an internal reward. Motivating students through intrinsic motivation makes them want to learn more. <strong>The following statements are why intrinsic motivation is important:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It creates a student centered classroom<\/li>\n<li>Promotes mastery, rather than performance<\/li>\n<li>Provides learning goals for the students<\/li>\n<li>Realistic and high expectations for students<\/li>\n<li>Promotes creativity<\/li>\n<li>Students feel accomplished<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-248\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2017\/09\/intrinsic-motovation-171x300.jpg?resize=297%2C521\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2017\/09\/intrinsic-motovation.jpg?resize=171%2C300&amp;ssl=1 171w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2017\/09\/intrinsic-motovation.jpg?w=564&amp;ssl=1 564w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Autonomy is important in motivating students:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The idea of autonomy can help students direct their own learning because it is a form of self-government. This allow students to do what they want with their learning. I think that all students come into my classroom with prior-knowledge. They have their own ideas and experiences to give to the rest of the class. This allows for diversity. Having different ideas in the classroom will allow students to learn from each other. They are able to use cooperative learning to enhance\u00a0their learning in the classroom because they add their own ideas to what we are learning.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-249\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2017\/09\/pic-1-264x300.png?resize=264%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2017\/09\/pic-1.png?resize=264%2C300&amp;ssl=1 264w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2017\/09\/pic-1.png?w=574&amp;ssl=1 574w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose in the classroom:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Purpose in the classroom goes beyond the test. The purpose of teaching is to advance the students knowledge of themselves and the world around them. Students need to feel like what they are doing is important. This is why I want to make sure students use their prior knowledge and build upon it so that they become more well rounded.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dan Pink: The puzzle of motivation\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.ted.com\/talks\/dan_pink_the_puzzle_of_motivation\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mastery:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mastery is never achieved. It is a process in which people continue to learn. I want my students to be intrinsically motivated to want to learn more. They should be asking questions and they should be curious about the world around them. Allowing students to take learning into their own hands, they are able to tap their intrinsic learning.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, I think that a combination of extrinsic and intrinsic learning are important to have in the classroom. Students should want to learn more about the world around them. They should be able to explore what they are interested in. I think that a healthy balance between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation is perfect in a classroom setting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Think about your life and what motivates you to get out of bed in the morning.
