Looking back on my high school years, there were some science teachers who stood out to me who I would love to &#8220;imitate&#8221; in my future classroom. Those teachers went above and beyond to ensure that their students had the best experience in their classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My goal in this post is to explore the variety of ways a science teacher can be exemplary in his or her classroom. Some of which, my high school science teachers practiced themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ih1.redbubble.net\/image.476389896.1536\/flat%2C550x550%2C075%2Cf.u2.jpg?resize=196%2C236&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"236\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Incorporating hands-on experiments <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a fun experiment to incorporate into a science classroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The rainbow flame demonstration\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TOyDzOc2AaI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Why are hands-on experiments so effective?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They can introduce a new idea.<\/li><li>They can clarify a topic that students may find confusing. <\/li><li>Allows children to keep their senses engaged.<\/li><li>Experiments enhance critical thinking skills.<\/li><li>Allows students to work together creating team building.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Keeping the classroom a positive place <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a known fact that science can be confusing and not an easy subject for all students to understand. It is important for the classroom to be a positive environment for students to learn and grow as scientists. Just ask the question! Chances are at least one of your classmates has the same question or is confused on a topic. Make science FUN!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not a surprise that science doesn&#8217;t happen to be every students favorites subject. Exemplary science teachers do their best to make the subject of science as enjoyable as possible, especially the students who do not particularly enjoy science. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ted talk below talks about ways to make science fun. Mr. DeWitt talks about the importance of not having students simply memorize facts from a text book. If students are forced to memorize definitions and take notes, most of the time they will not understand the main ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. DeWitt created a horror story about the concepts of how viruses attack. I hope to bring these ideas into my classroom and possibly change students&#8217; mindsets about science. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My goal is to have my students view science as a way to expand their curiosity.
