Some students will be resilient in doing their school work, others will be resilient in letting you in emotionally. You will even see students who are both resilient to let you in emotionally and resilient to do their school work. As teachers we must be able to take the resilience and foster it into a positive classroom experience for all students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Fostering Resilient Learners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/f1.media.brightcove.com\/8\/741804544001\/741804544001_5596966196001_5590805895001-vs.jpg?resize=284%2C160\" alt=\"Image result for fostering resilient learners\" width=\"284\" height=\"160\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>ACES scores:<\/strong>\u00a0An\u00a0ACE score\u00a0is a tally of different types of abuse, neglect, and other hallmarks of a rough childhood. According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, the rougher your childhood, the higher your score\u00a0is likely to be and the higher your risk for later health problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples that will increase ACE scores:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Substance abuse in the home.<\/li>\n<li>Parental separation.<\/li>\n<li>Mental illness in the home.<\/li>\n<li>Suicidal household member.<\/li>\n<li>Death of a parent or another loved one.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Trauma Video:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The paradox of trauma-informed care | Vicky Kelly | TEDxWilmington\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jFdn9479U3s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Helping Students be more resilient as science learners:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Rather than attempting to &#8216;save&#8217; a particular student, it&#8217;s more effective to concentrate on being safe enough for all the students who enter our domain.&#8221; (<em>Souers, 2016)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>&#8220;We must find out what students are asking for, help them make sense of that need , and teach them to express it in a productive way.&#8221; (<em>Souers. 2016)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>&#8220;All to often we wait for the tornado to hit and then react. Implementing healthy interventions strategies before hand diverts our students&#8217; reactionary responses, equips them with the appropriate options and intercepts the tornado.&#8221; (<em>Souers. 2016)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Provide strategies, specific activities, ideas and resources for other teachers to use to foster resiliency:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As a teacher you must&#8230;&#8230;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide students consistency<\/li>\n<li>Encourage them throughout every assignment and situation.<\/li>\n<li>Stay positive so all students will stay positive.<\/li>\n<li>Make a connection with every students, so they really know you care.<\/li>\n<li>Create an opening and welcoming classroom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/MissChasteen\/status\/1121131099143458816<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Fostering (all) of the Resilient Learners!
