autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Prepared Practitioner<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This teaching theory is extremely relevant to the science classroom.\u00a0 How students learn science needs to be connected to what they already know about living world around them.\u00a0 So as teachers, it is our responsibility to build the bridge of knowledge between what they already know (or have some knowledge) and what they are learning.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>Constructivism and Conceptual Change, Part 1\u00a0<\/em>by Alan Colburn, he mentions three possible results of the bridge gap in student&#8217;s knowledge and the possible outcomes.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Assimilation of new knowledge in the science classroom will fit perfectly with what the student already knows.\u00a0 This is because of their strong prior knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>If what students are learning doesn&#8217;t properly correspond to their prior knowledge, they will be confused and they will not be able to comprehend what is being taught.<\/li>\n<li>Students can take this new knowledge and work it into their working and long-term memory by reorganizing their thoughts and ideas.\u00a0 By naturally making these connections from experience and learning is the ideal way to come about constructivist learning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>All students perceive what they learn in different ways, so as a science teacher, it is our job to help them make connections and build their knowledge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1523\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-10-at-11.24.09-PM-300x189.png?resize=300%2C189\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-10-at-11.24.09-PM.png?resize=300%2C189&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-10-at-11.24.09-PM.png?resize=768%2C484&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-10-at-11.24.09-PM.png?resize=1024%2C645&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-10-at-11.24.09-PM.png?w=1048&amp;ssl=1 1048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lesson Plan<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Engage:\u00a0 Allow students to research and find data on the outdoor water\/grassland area.\u00a0 Whether it is counting the abundance of certain flower species or collect water samples, students will understand the health of the certain ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>Explore:\u00a0 Look at their data and samples from what they&#8217;ve collected outside, and predict from their observations what outcomes they might determine or discover.<\/p>\n<p>Explain:\u00a0 Students will create their own definitions of ecosystems, species density, and diversity from their own observations and data.<\/p>\n<p>Elaborate:\u00a0 How does species diversity and the health of ecosystems affect student&#8217;s everyday life?\u00a0 The should use past experience and list experiences from the next week\u00a0 about how vital biodiversity and the health of ecosystems is.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate:\u00a0 Make a presentation about their findings and what they have learned from collecting data and talk about it in front of the class.\u00a0 It will show their\u00a0 understanding and growth.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Scaffolding your student\u2019s learning is essential to how they absorb information.
