More often that not one or two students end up feeling like they\u2019ve done they whole project or they really had to do the whole project because not every student in the group participated. This leads to some students not learning anything at all!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1379 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2018\/10\/1-1-300x224.jpg?resize=300%2C224\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/1-1.jpg?resize=300%2C224&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/1-1.jpg?w=366&amp;ssl=1 366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to David W Johnson and Roger T Johnson:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCooperative learning is working together to accomplish shared goals.\u00a0 Within cooperative situations, individuals seek outcomes that are beneficial to themselves and beneficial to all other group members.\u00a0Cooperative learning is the instructional use of small groups so that students work together to maximize their own and each other\u2019s learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>The following picture will explain all the <\/b><span style=\"color: #000000\"><b>characteristics<\/b><\/span><b>\u00a0of Cooperative learning!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sEONVU_j-og\/Wd3bXcbYqNI\/AAAAAAAAAIc\/83ydkr6OCPENw_vva79uzLXqLIBt9mkzwCEwYBhgL\/s400\/Yong%2BHuei%2BWang%2B16.jpg?resize=254%2C190&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Yong Huei Wang\" width=\"254\" height=\"190\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Somethings that need to be considered before implementing cooperative learning in the classroom:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put students in \u201cTeams\u201d not \u201cGroups.\u201d The word team allows for a more unified environment and encourages the students to work together as a whole.<\/li>\n<li>Cooperative learning will only be successful if the members of each team have formed a good relationship with each other so make sure you allow them to get to know each other before you begin the cooperative learning in your classroom.<\/li>\n<li>As the teacher you will need to make sure that task is delegated equally so you will be able to know if every student in every team is contributing correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Video of Cooperative learning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cooperative Learning Model: Strategies &amp; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>There are a few examples of cooperative learning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Presentation of info is teacher lead.<\/li>\n<li>Teams are formed equally based on academic ability, gender, and ethnicity.<\/li>\n<li>Teams do a lesson together and then take an individual quiz.<\/li>\n<li>Individual improvement score.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Jigsaw II<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teams are formed of \u201cexperts\u201d that focus on a specific topic.<\/li>\n<li>Students form smaller groups within the expert group and focus on a small part of the specific topic.<\/li>\n<li>Once the sub groups have concluded their research they form the large expert group and share the findings.<\/li>\n<li>Quizzes will be given on a scoring scale like STAD.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Co-op Co-op<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student centered discussion.<\/li>\n<li>Teams should be formed from common interest rather than friendships.<\/li>\n<li>Students analyze the topic selected and break it into mini topics.<\/li>\n<li>A brief report of each mini topic is created and then the team comes together to form a presentation to present to the whole class.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation can be quizzes or graded reports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Group Investigation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Groups of 5 are selected and a topic is picked.<\/li>\n<li>The teacher and the students will plan specific learning procedures, tasks, and goal surrounding the topic selected.<\/li>\n<li>Learning will involve a wide range of activities.<\/li>\n<li>Students then evaluate and analyze the info gathered in the previous step.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluations can be done in a group or individual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Guided Reciprocal Peer Questioning<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teacher lectures for about 10-15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Students will be given generic question stems that they must create questions for independently.<\/li>\n<li>Then students will get in teams and answer questions in the discussion using different stems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cooperative learning lesson plans:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1375 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2018\/10\/500_F_180256750_YqXeUMfwpmjskdpnd9v5NpQYaKNsE8hc-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/500_F_180256750_YqXeUMfwpmjskdpnd9v5NpQYaKNsE8hc.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/500_F_180256750_YqXeUMfwpmjskdpnd9v5NpQYaKNsE8hc.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/500_F_180256750_YqXeUMfwpmjskdpnd9v5NpQYaKNsE8hc.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cooperatively Learning the Water Cycle<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Students will break into their teams that they are already familiar with.<\/li>\n<li>Once into teams one person of each team will be learning an aspect of the water cycle.
