Mr. Seballos (@mr_seballos) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mr_seballos\/status\/1047542949796569088?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 3, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Students are not only able to learn from what they are doing, but they are also able to learn from one another.\u00a0 They can take these interpersonal skills and abilities they are learning and are able to make stronger connections with their peers.\u00a0 When it comes to learning in school, content isn&#8217;t the only important aspect.\u00a0 Learning how to work together and having good social skills can help students further into their lives.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Different types of cooperative learning<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1386\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/edt431-531\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-03-at-1.46.59-PM-300x181.png?resize=300%2C181\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-03-at-1.46.59-PM.png?resize=300%2C181&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-03-at-1.46.59-PM.png?resize=768%2C463&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-03-at-1.46.59-PM.png?resize=1024%2C617&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sites.miamioh.edu\/exemplary-science-teaching\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-03-at-1.46.59-PM.png?w=1108&amp;ssl=1 1108w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>STAD:\n<ol>\n<li>After presenting the material to the students, group them together in different teams based on varying skills, abilities, and ethnic\/gender differences.<\/li>\n<li>They will work together to complete assignments (preferably inquiry-based activities), and they will be individually quizzed after doing so.<\/li>\n<li>Individual improvement scores will be given based on their work performance.\u00a0 Finally, recognizing hard work of students is what the teacher should do after these steps have taken place.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Jigsaw II:\n<ol>\n<li>By outlining what students need to do and learn, separate students into equal groups where they will become experts in a certain topic.<\/li>\n<li>Students are responsible for mastering a skill by doing research, watching videos, and preparing illustrations.<\/li>\n<li>Afterwards, you will separate students into different groups where each person has different knowledge on different topics, and they will teach each other on what they have mastered.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Co-op\/co-op:\n<ol>\n<li>Student discussion is vital to this technique.<\/li>\n<li>When introducing a topic, ask all students to brainstorm what they would be interested to learn.<\/li>\n<li>From there, group students into teams based on their different interests.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Group Investigation:\n<ol>\n<li>When organizing students into groups, have them select a topic of interest.<\/li>\n<li>Counsel them on their strategy on researching their topic and give them different ideas that they can bounce off of each other.\u00a0 This strategy is very interactive.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Teaching Methods for Inspiring the Students of the Future | Joe Ruhl | TEDxLafayette\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UCFg9bcW7Bk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Here in this video, we have a TED Talk based on cooperative learning and student choice in their learning.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Potential Cooperative Learning Lesson<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Lets take the Jigsaw II learning technique.\u00a0 Group students into five (5) even teams.\u00a0 Each team will research and focus on mastering the ideas of:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Prophase<\/li>\n<li>Prometaphase<\/li>\n<li>Metaphase<\/li>\n<li>Anaphase<\/li>\n<li>Telophase<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After they learn the specific steps and details of each phase of mitosis, we can re-group students into five groups again.\u00a0 Now, these teams will have members who have mastered the five phases of mitosis.\u00a0 From this point, students in each team will teach one another what they have mastered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>What is cooperative learning?
