As a result, there are dire financial and educational consequences for non white families who experience this structural violence.\u00a0 According to Richard Rothstein, research associate at the Economic Policy Institute (EPI),\u00a0&#8220;Since wealth largely comes from housing investments, and home values have increased dramatically over the decades in many areas, those policies have exacerbated income and wealth disparities, Rothstein explained. Writer Danny Cross explains, &#8220;Cincinnati-style chili goes back to 1922, with the creation of downtown\u2019s Empress Chili \u2014 named after a burlesque theater next door called \u201cthe Empress.\u201d Fact is, Cincinnati chili was invented by Greek immigrants \u2014 Empress owners Tom and John Kiradjieff \u2014 who used Mediterranean-inspired spices to create a meat sauce used initially to top hot dogs sold out of a cart.&#8221; (Cross, 2015). Despite this contribution, alongside the countless other cultural\/political\/social offerings, immigrant populations have faced waves of violence and resistance in the past (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cincinnatimagazine.com\/citywiseblog\/one-hundred-years-ago-anti-german-hysteria-consumed-cincinnati\/\">anti German Hysteria<\/a> and today see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citybeat.com\/news\/news-feature\/article\/20850703\/trumps-executive-order-on-immigration-causes-intense-local-backlash\">\u00a0Sanctuary City backlash<\/a>).
