style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Carnival Game PBL project that I designed for my 7th grade Math classroom is designed to be a project happening towards the end of the year. \u00a0We finish the school year learning about probability so this will be the project that ends that unit. \u00a0I anticipate this being a 2 week project in our curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Intro of Project:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Project will be introduced by showing the video Caine\u2019s Arcade which is a true story of a little boy who builds an arcade completely out of cardboard (<\/span><b>If you have never seen the video you need to watch it now. \u00a0It is an amazing and heartwarming story! \ud83d\ude42<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> )<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Caine&#039;s Arcade\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/faIFNkdq96U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>The following question will be posed to the students:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How can you design a carnival game to where not everyone will win the game, but it will still be a game that people will want to play (meaning that there is a chance to win)?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b><i>You CAN<\/i><\/b><\/td>\n<td><b><i>You CANNOT<\/i><\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have a group of 1, 2, or 3 with people who have a similar plan as yours and who you will get along with<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Try to negotiate with your Math teacher to make a group of 4 or more<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bring in supplies from home<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bring in wood, paint and balloons (based on school rules)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Imagine how much \u201cmoney\u201d people would win playing your game<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bring in candy, tickets, or other actual prizes to hand out (this supplies<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use water<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Create a game that can sit on the floor OR a table<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Create a big game to where you can\u2019t even get it out of the room \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><b><br \/>\nSTEP 1: <\/b><b>\u00a0BRAINSTORMING <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">***THIS MUST BE SIGNED OFF BY ME BEFORE YOU CAN BEGIN CONSTRUCTING ANYTHING.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Draw a Rough Sketch of your Game (everyone must have this drawn in your group)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">List out Materials needed:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">List out the Rules:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How do people win your game?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>STEP 2:<\/b><b> \u00a0BUILD YOUR GAME<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Here are some CARNIVAL<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0You need to have simple rules posted so that anyone can walk up to your game, read the rules, and learn to play quickly and easily.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0You must post how much \u201cmoney\u201d it is to play.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0You must post how to win.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0\u00a0You must have posted how much \u201cmoney\u201d you would win.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" your game. \u00a0Remember, this is the chances of winning your game in a \u201cperfect\u201d situation. \u00a0Work will need to be shown. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>STEP 5:<\/b><b> \u00a0EXPERIMENTAL PROBABILITY<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Each person needs to play the game 50 times and record how many times you win.<\/p>\n<p><b>STEP 6: <\/b><b>\u00a0CREATE YOUR PRESENTATION&#8212;Individualized Presentations, not 1 per group<\/b><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Google Presentation must include<\/strong><\/em>: Name of Game,\u00a0Rules to your game,\u00a0How do you win,\u00a0How much to play,\u00a0How much you will win,\u00a0Theoretical Probability with brief explanation of how it was calculated and Experimental Probability<\/p>\n<p><b>STEP 7: \u00a0WRITE YOUR REFLECTION<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Students will be required to submit either electronically or written by a hand a reflection of their game. \u00a0Included in the reflection must be the answers to following questions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What role did you play within your group?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why should your game be a part of a carnival?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What were some of the difficulties\/challenges in designing a game that people could win but not be super easy to win every time?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What was the data you collected the day of the carnival and what surprised you from the data?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>CARNIVAL DAY!!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-731\" (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will go down to set up their carnival in our school\u2019s common area. \u00a0They will need to come up with a system to track how many people play and how many people win their game.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They will take turns playing their classmates games and will vote at the end for the one that they enjoyed the most<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parents and other school officials are invited to come and participate as well. \u00a0They will also be included in voting for the favorite game.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a
