Loftus&#8217;s pioneering work over several decades has explored the fallibility of memory and people&#8217;s susceptibility to contextual factors that systematically alter recall of events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a blurb for her talk: Nationally, roughly two-thirds of DNA-based exonerations of wrongfully convicted persons involve misidentification of perpetrators by eyewitnesses. In this lecture, Elizabeth Loftus, recently described by the New Yorker as &#8220;the most influential female psychologist of the twentieth century,&#8221; will discuss the state of knowledge regarding eyewitness misidentification and the implications for criminal justice policy and practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Loftus&#8217;s lecture is part of the lecture series, entitled the &#8220;Dialogues on Democracy&#8221; series, that Miami&#8217;s Menard Family Center for Democracy is sponsoring again this spring semester.
