Students in ACC 490D, Accounting and Tax Policy, had the opportunity to visit several important venues in New York and Washington DC as a part of a Winter Term study away class led by Professor Tim Eaton. The group included 18 students from all class levels, from first year students to seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The New York itinerary included visits to The Clearing House, EY, and NASDAQ; The Wall Street Experience tour; and a visit to the One World Observatory and 9\/11 Memorial & Museum. The group was present at the Nasdaq opening bell\u2014their host, a former floor trader who happened to be trading the day of 9\/11, shared many interesting stories from the trenches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Washington DC, the group visited the World Bank as well as the offices of PwC, Deloitte, the AICPA, KPMG, and the Federal Board of Governors. Students also went on a tour of the US Capitol and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group met with industry leaders, including several Miami alumni who hold positions at accountancy firms, as listed below. Several of the discussions during the trip focused on the growing importance of ESG reporting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group was joined by Marcia Smith, Associate Director of Academic Advising. The trip was made possible by the coordination efforts of Amanda Pyzoha, EY Professional Development Advisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
