Smucker Teaching Excellence Award for Outstanding Junior Professor, and <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/ckdpal\/ohfeh8ee\/cgq8mx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jon Pyzoha<\/a>&nbsp;was given the Farmer School of Business Faculty Award for Service Excellence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">James Zhang, Outstanding Junior Professor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/James_web.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Dean Jenny Darroch, Professor James Zhang, and Department Chair Anne Farrell\" class=\"wp-image-3427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/James_web.jpg 900w, https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/James_web-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/James_web-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>L\u2013R: <\/em>FSB Dean Jenny Darroch, Professor James Zhang, and Department Chair Anne Farrell<br><em>Photo by Jay Murdock<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Zhang teaches <strong>ACC 361 <\/strong>(Modeling Business Processes in Accounting Information Systems), a junior-level course focusing on accounting information systems, technologies, and business controls; and <strong>ACC 495\/595<\/strong> (Accounting Analysis), a capstone course that focuses on data analytics and emerging technologies in accounting. His teaching philosophy focuses on the following themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Experiential learning in classrooms<\/strong>\u2014hands-on exercises on accounting technologies (Alteryx, Gen AI, and Tableau), in-class role-playing transaction simulation games on understanding the transactions that produce the accounting journal entries, and client projects partnering with the PwC and inviting professionals to judge student presentations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Student advising<\/strong>\u2014connecting students with recruiters and participating in student organization events (e.g., Meet the Firms and the Beta Alpha Psi events)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Teaching-motivated research<\/strong>\u2014published three research articles with Miami students to study the impact of emerging technologies&nbsp;in the accounting profession.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, his research focuses on accounting information&nbsp;systems and emerging technologies in accounting, data visualizations in financial disclosures, and qualitative\/interview research that explores professional insights on topics such as cybersecurity and enterprise risk management.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jon Pyzoha, Service Excellence Award<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/Jon_web.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Dean Jenny Darroch, Jon Pyzoha, and Anne Farrell \" class=\"wp-image-3429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/Jon_web.jpg 900w, https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/Jon_web-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/files\/2025\/05\/Jon_web-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>L\u2013R: <\/em>FSB Dean Jenny Darroch, Professor Jon Pyzoha, and Department Chair Anne Farrell<br><em>Photo by Jay Murdock<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Jon Pyzoha firmly believes in the important and critical role of service in maintaining a high level of academic quality at Miami University, the FSB, and the Accountancy department. Beyond Miami, he also also takes a position of leadership to make a difference in the accounting profession. His notable service activities include the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Service to the Profession<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chair of the American Accounting Association (AAA) Auditing Standards Committee <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Member of the AAA Education Committee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hosted an Ohio Society of CPAs career day conference with 75+ high school students from Southwest Ohio to promote Miami and accountancy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Service to Miami University and the Department <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Elected FSB representative on the University Senate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chair of the Department of Accountancy External Engagement Committee, shaping and implementing a new communications strategy targeted at college and high school students, parents, guidance counselors, alumni, and faculty through developing multimedia content for online communications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spearheaded development efforts during #<em>MoveInMiami<\/em>, implementing a new strategy and raising over $22k after the Farmer Family Foundation match<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support faculty growth by serving as co-chair of TCPL and course coordinator search committees, and as member of the department&#8217;s faculty development committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student-Focused Service<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chaired the FSB Quantitative Literacy Committee, which worked with the Math Department to address student success in calculus issues, leading to a proposed Quantitative Success Center in the FSB&#8217;s Innovation Factory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serving as Faculty Advisor for the Deloitte Audit Innovation Campus Challenge Case Competition since 2017<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Worked with students on seven independent studies and four published papers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developed guiding principles for use of AI in the classroom with two Accountancy professors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re very lucky to have these outstanding faculty members in our department.
